Kelly Rowland is heading to "Empire."

The 34-year-old singer and actress will have a guest spot in the upcoming season of the FOX musical drama, E! Online confirmed. Rowland will play Lucious Lyon's (Terrence Howard) mother in a flashback.

The series writers tweeted a group photo with themselves with the former Destiny's Child singer, with the caption, "Hey, @KELLYROWLAND! Thank you for spending some time with the #Empire writers! (sic)"

No further information about her role is available.

Rowland is the latest star added to the cast of "Empire" for season two. Other celebrities scheduled to guest star on the series include Chris Rock, Lenny Kravitz, Marisa Tomei and Alicia Keys.

The upcoming season will also feature Grammy-winning artist Ne-Yo, who is expected to have a pretty big role in the show.

"I'm a big fan of Empire and I'm gonna get the privilege to be a part of the Empire family: they're writing me into the script as a character - not as myself, which is kind of cool," he told Buzz Feed. "I'm digging that. Also I'm doing a lot of the music for the second season, so that's special. Huge Scandal fan, and I have been since the beginning. Recently caught up on my Game of Thrones, really really excited about the next season of that."

"Empire" season 2 will debut on Sept. 23.
