NeNe Leakes is exiting "Real Housewives of Atlanta" after seven seasons, according to People.

Leakes has starred on the Bravo reality series since the show began in 2008 and appeared in the most episodes of any Atlanta housewife. She ultimately made the choice to not return for the eighth season.

"This was definitely a hard decision for me," the 47-year-old reality star told People. "Me and my husband [Gregg Leakes] have been going back and forth on it for weeks now. But my contract is up and I just think this is the right time. This is my opportunity to spread my wings and do different things."

The "Glee" actress has several new projects in the works. She and her "Real Housewives" co-star Kim Zolciak will star in a new reality show called "The Road to Riches" which sends the ladies on a road trip across the country from Atlanta to Los Angeles.

Leakes also announced a new primetime series that starts filming this week.

"I'm actually going to be doing a new primetime television show with a big legend," she said. "All of my fans will get to see me be really happy, witty and funny and tell all of those one liners that I always have said on 'Housewives.'"

She may keep her one-liners, but Leakes is fine saying goodbye to the stress of constant drama and fights with her fellow housewives.

"I feel a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders," she said.

Claudia Jordan also announced her exit from "Real Housewives of Atlanta" last week. Jordan, who joined the show in season seven, frequently clashed with Leakes.
