Bradley Cooper has fought enemies with the A-Team, fallen in love with Jennifer Lawrence in "Silver Linings Playbook" and helped get Stu and the gang out of trouble once again in "The Hangover III." Now it appears the 38-year-old actor will be taking on a more familiar and true to life role in the Lance Armstrong biopic showing the rise and controversial fall of the athlete's career.
Warner Bros., Atlas Entertainment and director Jay Roach are moving forward with the movie titled "Red Blooded American" based on the seven-time Tour de France cycling champion who faced shame and disgrace after it was revealed that he had been doping all along.
Deadline reports that Cooper is in talks to come on board the project as a producer. He is also looking to star in one of two major roles. The first role is obviously as Armstrong himself. The other is as Tyler Hamilton, the former teammate of Armstrong and confidant. Hamilton is ultimately responsible for coming forward and telling 60 Minutes what he saw Armstrong doing. The cyclist lashed out at Hamilton after he essentially betrayed his trust and revealed information from an otherwise close circle of people who knew about his doping habits.
The real Lance Armstrong is still trying to repair his image after confessing to Oprah Winfrey and the world that it wasn't his iron will that helped him win 7 Tour de France titles starting in 1998 after beating testicular cancer but rather it was performance enhancing drugs. He has since been stripped of his titles and been removed from his cancer foundation Livestrong, which has also suffered a drop in donations following the controversy.
Cooper's involvement will mean a lot for Warner Bros. and Atlas Entertainment's claim to the Lance Armstrong story as a couple other studios are currently interested in making this movie as well. The studio wants to fast-track the project for sometime next year.
