Notorious raunchy comedian Lisa Lampanelli is adding four shows to her run at Downtown York's historic Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center. The actress will host a developmental production of her new one-woman show "Skinny Bitch: NOT a Stand-Up Comedy Show.
The viewings will take place throughout the fall and will feature the comedian, known for her foul mouth and crude humor, in a more serious and frank discussion about body image and her personal stories in dealing with it all her life. The show stars Lampanelli, was co-written by Alan Zweibel and directed by the Tony Award-winning John Rando. Although the show won't be completely devoid of laughter, the "Queen of Mean" will be showing off a side of herself that many probably don't know exists, according to BroadwayWorld.com. The show will chronicle her struggles with food, men, and body image.
Lampanelli has become a common household name as a result of her standout performance on the fifth season of Celebrity Apprentice as well as her long career in standup. She went relatively unnoticed until her 2008 debut at the Comedy Central Roast of Hugh Hefner. She was so well received by the audience that she was invited back to the next roast and eventually became a regular at the network's annual roasting tradition. Prior to that, her standup had caught the attention of radio host Howard Stern, who regularly had her on as a guest. Her "take no prisoners" standup style proved perfect for the show's usual raunchy tone.
In addition to her work as a comedian, the Inquisitr reports Lamanelli is a successful and talented singer who has released numerous albums.
Lisa Lampanellia has scheduled four shows at the Strand. The shows on October 3, 4, and 5, will begin at 8 pm. The October 6 show will begin at 3 pm. Tickets go on sale August 13 for Strand members. They will be available to the general public on August 27.
