French company Spinali Design has created what it claims to be the first bikini for women capable of warning wearers of potential sunburns at the beach.

The new high-tech swimwear sends alerts to your smartphone to warn you that you are exposing yourself to too much ultraviolet radiation, according to The Telegraph. These warnings are sent by a sensor attached to a woman's one or two-piece swimsuit.

Marie Spinali, head of Spinali Design, said the idea for the bikini was born when someone made an off-the-cuff comment about people looking like "lobsters still in the sun."

Warnings are sent to users "depending on their skin type," The Telegraph reported. Wearers can then avoid sunburns by using sunscreen or moving into a shady spot. Alerts can also be sent in a "Valentines" version to a partner so he or she can put sunscreen on them.

The bikini is the latest of products to debut with the purpose of preventing sunburns. Other products include a bracelet created by Paris-based Netatmo to keep track of UV exposure and provide tips for protection, as well as a SunFriend watch-like gadget created by a British company to measure UV exposure so users won't have to use sunscreen.

Spinali Design's bikini is available now at costs between 150-200 euros (110-146 pounds), and the company is working on a children's version that uses a GPS to let parents know if their kids wanders off on the beach.
