VMAs: Katy Perry, Robin Thicke and Miley Cyrus Join List of Performers Singing Their Hits Of The Summer At Live Aug. 25 Show

After a four-year absense from MTV's Video Music Awards, Katy Perry will return later this month to perform her new song. For the audience in attendence and those watching at home.

Perry hasn't performed at the show since 2009. The 2013 awards will be broadcast live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn N.Y. on August 25. Perry's latest single, released on Monday, titled "Roar" has been going viral and delighting fans ever since its release. It is the first released song off the new album, PRISM, due out October 22. Perry has won 4 VMA awards, according to USA Today, even winning the highest honor of video of the year for her song "Firework."

She previously performed her hit "I Kissed a Girl" at the 2008 show and a cover of Queen's "We Will Rock You" along with Aerosmith's Joe Perry in 2009.

Perry isn't the only major name on the star-studded performance list. Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke will perform their summer anthems at the show as well. The two are tied with Bruno Mars as the second most nominated act with four each. They are second to Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis who lead with six nominations each according to The Washington Post.

MTV also announced a new award category as well for this year's show. The award goes to the best song of the summer. Cyrus and Thicke are nominees for their songs "We Can't Stop" and "Blurred Lines" respectively. These two songs will compete with Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," Selena Gomez's "Come & Get It," One Direction's "Best Song Ever" and Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding's "I Need Your Love."

The trio of performers are will be joined by already booked guests Lady Gaga and Kanye West who will also perform their songs from this week.
