"Beyond: Two Souls" reviews are in!

Following it's predecessor "Heavy Rain", "Beyond: Two Souls" is a story-driven game following the narrative of Jodie and an Entity named Aiden. However, it takes a lot of impress gamers these days, especially on the heels of the release of "Grand Theft Auto V."

Critics seem to be nit picky, and underwhelmed by the lack of control you actually have of the outcome of the game. Check out the snippets of what the gaming community had to say about "Beyond: Two Souls."

IGN says it's okay with a 6 out of 10 rating:

"This constant push and pull between our sense that we are impacting the story and the story itself has always been at the heart of everything David Cage has created, but it's examples like these that highlight just how passive Beyond made me feel. There are, of course, choices: on Quantic's whim, you can choose how Jodie responds in conversation, whether she'll dance at a party or not, or take revenge on someone who has wronged her. But unlike the critical decisions you make in Heavy Rain, Beyond's choices feel small, and the story will storm onward no matter how they are played out, never pausing to toss you a crunchy moral quandary to change its direction in any way that feels significant. It's disappointingly unadaptable."

CVG agrees with IGN's rating:

"Beyond can't decide whether it's a thriller, a supernatural horror, a coming-of-age teen drama, or an action movie. It leaps between time periods and genres so wildly, and for so little reason, that it's almost impossible to become invested in the story at all. It's as if writer/director David Cage is trying to make ten films at once, and the result is a confusing jumble of themes and tone."

Then there is Gameranx.com and they show no mercy:

"As the pieces start to fall into place, as you realize that the middle few hours of the game just represent a long tangent, as Cage dumps out-of-left-field characterizations on you right before he uses those new characterizations to make something weird happen and presents you with predictably dumb twists as if they mean something, you understand that this is all just horses***."

Keep in mind this is a genre in gaming that is still being developed and tweaked to make cinematic-type experiences more enjoyable. Will you play "Beyond: Two Souls" or are you going to continue dominating GTA 5? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
