Firefly Online Returns: Joss Whedon's Universe Becomes Mobile RPG Videogame in 2014 (TRAILER)

Television shows often come and go. Some of the worst get to stay on the air and some of the best go down in television history as fallen soldiers in the battle of good taste and entertainment. No show's cancellation has been met with more consistent and strong outrage as Fox's cancellation of Joss Whedon's 2002 space-western TV show "Firefly." After so many years, thanks to fans persistent efforts to see something happen, Firefly is back... Just not in the way everyone would think.

Game Developer Quantum Mechanix Interactive revealed on Thursday that "Firefly Online" is actually going to happen.

"We hinted at a HUGE announcement for Firefly fans earlier today - well here it is," the company wrote on its Facebook page. "It's official! Firefly Online will be coming out Summer 2014 on mobile devices thanks to Quantum Mechanix Interactive, Spark Plug Games and Fox Digital."

The announcement came complete with a teaser trailer with a focus and objective that rings true to the television series. "Find a crew. Find a job. Keep flying."

Fans are a little disappointed to hear that the game will be on mobile devices like iOS and Android. Rumors of an Massive Multiplayer Online Roll Playing Game (MMORPG) from the Firefly universe have been around for as long as people have taken to Internet forums to demand the show back in some way. Getting in on a mobile device is the best news for fans since the film continuation of the show "Serenity" hit theaters in 2005.

According to the game's website keepflying.com, Firefly Online "is a social role playing game (RPG) based on Firefly, Joss Whedon's cult-hit television series. Firefly Online (FFO) is currently in development for iOS and Android, and may expand to include additional platforms.

In Firefly Online, players assume the role of a ship captain as they hire a crew and seek out adventures, all the while trading with and competing against the millions of other players to try to survive in the Verse: find a crew, find a job, keep flying."

Below is the teaser trailer for the game. Tell us what you think? Is this not good enough to satisfy the browncoat in you or can you not wait to put your ship and crew together?
