No. 15 Oklahoma bounced back from its loss on March 2 against Iowa State with a 75-73 regular-season finale win Saturday against Kansas, thanks to a tip-in from guard Buddy Hield with 0.2 seconds left.
"We wanted to get it to Jordan and set a ball screen for him at midcourt and let him get to the paint," said coach Lon Kruger, via ESPN. "He did a great job of getting to the rim, and that kind of triggered the opportunity. Buddy did a really good job to finish."
Hield said his clutch game-winning play was the result of him doing what he usually does.
"Coach always said the second shot will be the one to kill you," he said. "I know the second shot was going to kill them (Kansas). I'm always going to the glass, every time. It's a habit I have. It's paid off a lot for me."
Although the Sooners have beaten Oklahoma State (18-12) four times over the last two seasons, meanwhile, they're not underestimating coach Travis Ford's team. For Hield, his team's record against the Cowboys reminds him of how his team had also beaten Baylor four times before losing to them in last year's Big 12 quarterfinals.
"We beat them (Oklahoma State) four times," Hield said. "Last time, we beat Baylor (four) times in a row and they came and they really hit us. We can't let that happen again so we've got to learn from that experience and get after them."
Oklahoma State's regular season ended on a sour note after losing to West Virginia on Saturday, 81-72.
