'Curse of Chucky' Trailer and Release Date: Maniacal, Serial-Killing Doll is Back for 25th Anniversary of 'Child's Play' Franchise (WATCH)

The evil-blue-eyed, sinister-grinned child play doll is back to terrorize your dreams.

It's the 25th anniversary of the horror flick "Child's Play," which the late Chicago film critic Roger Ebert described as "a cheerfully energetic horror film of the slam-bang school, but slicker and more clever than most," according to the Los Angeles Times.

The red-headed doll possessed by the spirit of a serial killer, Charles Lee Ray, returns to his wicked ways in "Curse of Chucky," the sixth installment of "Child's Play" movie franchise.

"The last time we glimpsed the little monster came in 2004, when "Seed of Chucky" failed to muster up even $25 million at the box office worldwide," the Huffington Post reported. "It's no wonder, then, that the newest edition is skipping the theatrical release; 'Seed' saw a 50 percent decline in ticket sales from 1998's 'Bride of Chucky.'"

According to the Huffington post, the "Curse of Chucky" will follow the story of the original three "Child's Play" films, which are quintessential horror films. "Child's Play" lovers will enjoy that Brad Dourif, who has portrayed the evil doll since the 1988 original, voices Chucky in the new movie.

The movie is directed by Tom Holland and also stars Catherine Hicks and Chris Sarandon. Dourif's daughter, Fiona Dourif, stars in the "Curse of Chucky" as the mother of a young girl "who receives the doll in the mail unexpectedly," according to the Huffington Post. Dan Mancini, who wrote the previous films, returns for "Curse of Chucky" as well, but Jennifer Tilly does not reprise her role of Tiffany,

"Curse of Chucky" will be released for digital download on Sept. 24 and debuts on Blu-ray and DVD on Oct. 8.
