MLB Roster Moves 2013: Mets Recall Ike Davis from Triple-A Las Vegas; What Will They Do with Josh Satin?

The New York Mets have recalled first baseman Ike Davis from the minors according to MLB.com.

The Mets sent Davis to Triple-A Las Vegas on June 10 after his abysmal start to the season. Davis’ batting average in the Majors this year is .161 with five homeruns and 16 RBIs.

After spending about a month with the Las Vegas 51’s, Davis was hitting .293 with seven homeruns for the Mets Triple-A team. Davis adjusted his batting approach in the minors by fixing a small hitch in his swing.

The Mets have a small dilemma with the return of Davis. The team has been playing better baseball of late and Davis’ replacement—first baseman Josh Satin—has been an important piece. Satin is on a 10 game hitting streak and batting .353 with an on-base percentage of .468.

Satin and Davis are not the same player. Davis is known more for his power numbers and strikes out a lot even when he is having a good season. Satin is not the 30-homerun hitter Davis is but he will work the count and try to draw a walk.

This is not the first season Davis has struggled early on. He had a very low batting average at the beginning of last season but was able to become extremely hot in the second half. He finished the year with a .227 batting average but hit 32 homeruns and had 90 RBIs.

The Mets decision to leave him in the line-up last season may have been due to the fact the team started off the season with a 46-40 record. (They would end the year with a 74-88 record.)

This year things look much bleaker as the Mets’ record is 35-47.

The Mets will start young gun Zach Wheeler (1-1, 5.06 ERA) tonight in Milwaukee against the Brewers.
