Stress can lead to many health related disorders such as suppressed immune system, high blood pressure, stomach acid and ulcers, headaches, backaches, neck-aches, colds, and even cancer which is a risk to one's life.
"Everyone is stressed, and we've begun to think of that as normal, because we've gotten used to it," says psychotherapist Robert Friedman in a report published in U.S. news. "We sometimes try to pretend it isn't there, but stress is a hidden killer."
Friedman, author of 'How to Relax in 60 Seconds or Less, was able to highlight 3 primary factors which influence stress in a being which are environmental, social and physical. Friedman saw many people who did not let stress overcome or rule their lives and those people lived a healthier life.
"They've learned that they can't control the environment-but what they can control is their reaction to it," he says. "They use stress as a positive, and they actually look forward to it, because they know they can learn to deal with it. And then the next time, they won't have the same negative reaction."
A few unique techniques listed below can also help as a stress-buster.
A stressed body tends to take shorter breaths which increases heart rate and hypes the muscles of the body. Best way to overcome this can be by blowing up a balloon. It actually helps in breathe more slowly and deeply as a result the heart rate reduces and relaxes the muscles, Friedman said in a report from U.S. news.
Laughter is the best medicine. Friedman suggests the more one laughs the better it is to kill stress. "There's a lot to be said about laughing," Friedman says. "You release an endorphin every time you laugh, and those are 200 times stronger than morphine."
Friedman recalls the experience he had when he was 12 years old and was bullied by his peers. "I would go home and play my drums, and the anger, humiliation, and stress would evaporate," Friedman said. Then later he started a drumming program in a local spa and recalls a man who recovered from his back pain. "I've found that drumming allows you to have fun, stay in the present moment, and release stress-consciously and unconsciously," Friedman says in the same report by U.S. news. "It allows us to reach internalized emotions that need to come out."
