Some crackling chemistry between Mark Ruffalo and Gwyneth Paltrow kicks off the trailer of "Thanks for Sharing". Thirty seconds in, though, and Ruffalo's character, Adam, reveals he's a sex addict. When Paltrow's character Phoebe finds out, her response is, "Isn't that something guys just say when they're caught cheating?"
Described as a comedy-drama, "Thanks for Sharing" seems to offer some more light-hearted moments while dealing with a serious subject. In the trailer, Mike (played by Josh Gad) yells at Dede (played by Alecia Moore aka Pink), both of whom are in the same sex addiction counseling group as Adam, for directions to her boyfriend's house after she admits to being outside his place. She chastises him, "Damn, dude, you just went all Jack Bauer on me." The multi-starrer cast includes Tim Robbins.
Set to be released in September, "Thanks for Sharing" premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2012. Deadline reported that Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions had partnered to acquire the rights to the film, which is co-written and directed by Stuart Blumberg (he also wrote "The Kids Are All Right").
In an interview with Tribune at the festival, Gad revealed his reaction to the script when he read it. "It seems like an excuse," said the actor. "But then you wind up realizing how wrong you are about what this is and how effective the disease is in destroying your life."
"I think it seems like so many celebrities and athletes and politicians might use it as a 'get out of jail free' card, but I know a lot of addicts, and so I know how there's a lot of bad behavior that can be chalked up to any kind of addiction. For a long time, I don't think people believed in alcoholism, you know, and I think we're probably at the threshold of a decade of serious sex addiction," said Ruffalo in an interview with Vulture. The 45-year-old actor also talked about what it was like to act with Gwyneth Paltrow (both were last seen in "The Avengers", though in that she played Iron Man's girlfriend Pepper Potts while Ruffalo portrayed Dr Banner and The Hulk). "We're good pals. We felt really comfortable with each other, and that makes it easy," he said.
