Maurice Jones-Drew Fight: Running Back Will Not Face Charges for Conch House Altercation

The Florida State Attorney’s office said Jacksonville Jaguars star running back Maurice Jones-Drew will face no charges for a purported bar fight Memorial Day Weekend, according to ESPN.com. Jones-Drew was accused of hitting a bouncer.

An “announcement of no information” was issued by the state attorney’s office which said, “based on the facts and the law, the state cannot establish the charge beyond and to the exclusion of all reasonable doubt.”

"Naturally, I am pleased with this result and look forward to focusing on football," Jones-Drew commented through a statement. "My rehab is going well, and I'm anxious to join my teammates at the start of training camp."

Earlier in June the running back held a short press conference. However, he did not answer questions about the incident or give any information. The alleged fight took place at a St. Augustine restaurant and bar. It was supposedly with a man named Kasim Howard.

Jones-Drew’s agent said the three-time Pro Bowler was not in a fight on May 26 at the Conch House, something not corroborated by the police report.

Howard’s attorney said the incident was an “unprovoked attack.”

Jones-Drew’s agent Adisa Bakari continues to support his innocence.

"We are aware of the situation regarding Maurice Jones-Drew and are in the process of gathering more information," the Jaguars said in a statement a short time after the incident. "Due to this being a legal matter, we'll have no further comment at this time."

According to a report from the state attorney’s office a videotape showing the incident does not clearly display who hit Howard.

"It is not clear in the video if K. Howard grabbed, or struck from behind, what appears to be another black male," said the report "It appears as though K. Howard was struck and knocked down a very short time after grabbing this unknown black male. It is not evident who struck K. Howard based on this video."

An attorney for Howard, Patrick Canan, says a civil suit against Jones-Drew is in the works. He maintains the video supports his client’s claim.
