Oklahoma City (21-20) continues to inch closer to the eighth playoff seed, stringing together three straight wins after having an up-and-down January. Their latest win came on Tuesday against the Miami Heat, 84-86.
"Our defense sparked a lot of our offense," Russell Westbrook told the team website, via ESPN. "It gave us some extra opportunities to get out on the break, get to the line and get some fast break points."
Things have begun to look up for the Thunder. Kevin Durant and Westbrook continue to be sensational night in and night out, and the recent trade for Dion Waiters has seemingly paid off. Waiters's production and his minutes have jumped since leaving Cleveland, going from 10.5 points and 23.8 minutes per game to 12.5 points and 27.3 minutes per game through his first six games with Oklahoma City.
According to Waiters, there's a simple reason for his increased production.
"Listen, they give me the ball. Like, I touch the ball. Like, I actually, like, you know, touch the ball," Waiters told the Oklahoman on Monday. "... I'm able to feel the game out, knowing when to take the shot, when not to. Like I said, we got a great group of guys on this team who's very unselfish and they want you to be successful. So I think I came into a great situation."
Washington (29-13), meanwhile, is looking for their 30th win of the season. The Wizards have been hot behind the play of point guard John Wall, who's having his best all-around season - 17.0 points and 10.0 assists per game - since being drafted first overall in 2010.
