Now that "Fifty Shades of Grey" has a director official casting news could very well be announced soon. Until then, fans continue to throw out the names of their favorite actors and actresses who could play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. One fan-favorite has been causing a bit of a stir throughout the entire casting rumors - Ian Somerhalder.

The "Vampire Diaries" actor has constantly been picked to play kinky billionaire Christian Grey and he has been very vocal about his interest in the books and the role.

In an interview with Metro Online, the 34-year-old actor opened up about playing Grey in the movie "Fifty Shades of Grey" telling the newspaper that he never gets tired of people constantly asking him about the role.

"One can never get bored of people asking about a huge project," he told the newspaper. "Everyone has to realize every guy in Hollywood is up for this role. It could be anyone - that's how that goes."

Many actresses have been rumored for the part of Steele, including Alexis Bledel, Emilia Clarke, Felicity Jones and Jennifer Lawrence, but Somerhalder said he has no idea who could be picked for the role of the leading lady.

"There's so many incredible, young, talented women in Hollywood," he said. "They're going to find a really good one."

This isn't the first time Somerhalder has talked about the movie. In an interview with the Associated Press in March he talked about a "Vampire Diaries" spin-off and being a top contender in the highly anticipated movie.

"Almost every guy in Hollywood, in some way, is up for this role so. I think E.L. James just created a really badass, dynamic set of stories with some really cool characters," he told the Associated Press.

He did admit however, that the character can be "a little uncomfortable at times."

He goes on to tell a story about being at a store in the check-out line when he turned around and saw a woman reading the erotic novel. After she saw him she began to blush because in her mind and from all the rumors, Christian Grey was standing right in front of her.

"I just smiled at her and said 'That's a good read right?'" he said. "We totally had a moment."

In another interview from last year with the Associated Press Somerhalder again addressed the rumors saying that he already had experience seducing younger women since he plays a 170-year-old vampire who falls in love with younger women.

"Technically I have a lot of experience with younger women," Somerhalder said in the interview before adding "I wanna make that happen."

Fans of the trilogy series were ecstatic to find out that some significant progress had been made with the movie when it was announced that Sam Taylor-Johnson was hired to direct the movie.

"I am excited to be charged with the evolution of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' from page to screen," she said. "For the legions of fans, I want to say that I will honor the power of Erika's book and the characters of Christian and Anastasia. They are under my skin too."
