Marrying new media and tradition, Amazon has created a new 'Amazon Birthday Gift' facility on Facebook.
Online retails are constantly trying to woo customers and have launched many deals, promotional offers and discounts aimed at their consumers. Amazon has cleverly combined two activities people of today constantly indulge in to create a new feature. From time immemorial, people have indulged in gifting their friends and family presents on their birthdays and other special occasions. Amazon has combined this with social networking, a popular activity almost everyone indulges in these days. The giant retailer now offers Facebook users a convenient way of giving Friends on their list surprise birthday gifts with its new 'Amazon Birthday Gift'
This is how it works. A Facebook user creates a birthday message and attaches one of the new 'Amazon Birthday Gift' cards that come in values of $1, $5, $10 or $25. The message and gift card doesn't show up on the recipient's Timeline till the actual birth date. In the meanwhile, other friends on the recipient's friends list can add to this gift by contributing similar Amazon gift cards along with their own specialized message.
On the recipient's birthday, these messages and the attached Amazon Gift card appears on his or her timeline. The recipient can then purchase anything from Amazon.com using the total amount of money he or she receives in the form of the gift cards.
"Birthdays have always been social occasions, and sites like Facebook now make it possible for anyone around the world to send birthday wishes to friends - with Amazon Birthday Gift, those many individual messages can become a big gift," said Steve Shure, Amazon vice president, traffic in a press release. "Whether it's your best friend or your old high school teammate, Amazon Birthday Gift lets you join a social gift that will grow as more friends participate, which makes giving and receiving birthday messages on Facebook even more fun.
Currently, Amazon is also offering a limited period deal where in Amazon Gift card users could win $3 credit.
