Kids of lesbian parents are found to be smarter and happier according to a new study.
According to the report from the U.S. National Longitudinal Lesbian Family Study, which was conducted to study the consequences of homosexual parenting, found that kids of lesbian parents were smarter and happier in life with brighter future plans.
The study was conducted on 76 children of whom 38 were girls and 38 boys. They were all 17 years old and all of them were brought up by lesbian parents. The children were asked to answer questions about their parents and future plans. The data shows that all of these children had plans for college after high school, all of them had friends from heterosexual backgrounds and all of them considered their parents to be "successful", "happy" and their role models. All these children also showed signs of strong family bonds along with being extremely happy about their non-traditional parenting situation.
Studies done in the past on similar topics found that student who had lesbian or gay parents faced a lot of peer pressure in school and usually resulted in poor grades. However, with stronger parenting by homosexual parents, this situation has changed and it was found that all the 76 children who participated in the study had GPA scores of A+ and B+. It was also found that these children showed none to minimum behavioral issues when compared
One of the kids involved in the study wrote in his questionnaire, "They teach me to be accepting of all people on this earth, no matter what differences they may have."
Another girl said her mothers were "very successful, powerful, beautiful women who are happy with their lives and I would love to end up like them."
"These kids were planned and their lesbian mothers were very engaged in parenting," Nanette Gartrell, MD, Principal Investiator of the study said in a statement. "At the end of high school, the teens tell us that they have excellent grades, feel connected to their families and friends, and admire their parents.
"As a psychiatrist, I can say that these are the types of child rearing outcomes that every parent hopes for."
