If you want an Xbox One but are worried because you may not have Internet access, Don Mattrick, President of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business has a message for you, according to CNET.com.
"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity," said Mattrick in an interview Tuesday with Spike TV. "It's called Xbox 360."
Many have taken issue with the One’s requirement for an Internet connection. According to Mattrick the Microsoft’s innovative gaming system—or should we say, entertainment system—is “a future-proof” choice. He added having a system geared to online use has its perks. For example, gamers can connect with each other for entertainment and games.
The interviewer posed a follow up question to Mattrick, as if to clarify the statement he had just made. “So stick with 360, that’s your message?”
Mattrick said, “Well, if you have zero access to the Internet, that [Xbox 360] is an offline device."
He then referred to one example, in which a gamer who serves on a nuclear sub, commented on a blog.
"I don't even know what it means to be on a nuclear sub," the executive. "But I've got to imagine that it's not easy to get an Internet connection."
On one hand Mattrick is correct. Microsoft has chosen to forgo certain commodities to transform the Xbox One into an entertainment beast.
On the other hand, Mattrick may be adding fuel to the fire for Xbox fans that have been rubbed the wrong way since the One is region-locked, has restriction on used games and is $100 more than the PlayStation 4.
In Xbox’s defense, they are not steering away from the 360. They plan to debut a new 360 that will have the same look as the One.
