John Malkovich Save's Man's Life In Toronto; 'He's A Gentleman And A Compassionate Person'

Actor John Malkovich saved a man's life in Toronto according to Us Weekly. The 59-year-old "Warm Bodies" star was reportedly walking down the streets of Toronto when he heard a cry for help.

Jim Walpole, 77, tripped and "gashed his neck open" and his wife, Marilyn, 79, was the voice begging for assistance to save her husbands life.

"The way he was spurting I thought it was the carotid [artery] or the jugular [vein]," Marilyn said.

The couple was reportedly visiting from Ohio and had just ended their lunch date at P.J O'Brien's restaurant when Walpole fell. The restaurant owner also rushed to Walpole's aid at the time of the incident. According to CBC News, Malkovich used his scarf and applied pressure to stop the bleeding.

"They were so helpful, so wonderful," Walpole told CBC News. "I asked, What's your name?' He said, 'John.' And I didn't ask the last name 'cause I didn't figure I'd remember it anyhow."

The ambulance was called and Walpole was rushed to the hospital. The senior reportedly received 10 stitches and was not admitted to the hospital.

The couple tells CBC News that Malkovich gracefully exited once he felt he was no longer needed. The couple thanked him for his help as he thanked them.

"He's a gentleman and a compassionate person," Walpole said.

At the time the couple did not know of Malkovich's celebrity. Malkovich is currently in Toronto performing and staring in "The Giacomo Variations" at the Elgin Theater.

The couple vows to support the actors career after he saved Walpole's life.

"I'm going to watch all of them [his movies] that I can," Walpole said.
