Killer Instinct Announced Exclusively For Xbox One; No Official Release Date As of Yet

Killer instinct is making its way to the next generation of gaming and will be available solely for the Xbox One, according to an announcement at Microsoft’s E3 conference Monday.

Phil Spencer, Microsoft Studio’s Corporate Vice President, hinted a “historic IP” could show up at E3 according to Polygon.com.

"Fans of Rare and Rare IP I think will be pleased with what we're going to show at E3. Rare remains an incredibly important part of our development capabilities. That historic IP that they've built I can can play a real important role on Xbox One," said Spencer at the time.

The “Killer Instinct” Franchise is almost two decades old. The first game, “Killer Instinct”, debuted in 1994. It was followed two years later by “Killer Instinct 2” and “Killer Instinct: Gold.” The games were very popular and many thought there would be a “Killer instinct 3.” However, if there were any plans for the third game, they were never fulfilled.

The rumor mill buzz reached a high when in 2012 Microsoft—who is the parent company of the game’s developer Rare—put in an application to renew the Killer Instinct trademark.

The game’s presentation at E3 featured a trailer with three characters—Jago, Glacius, and Sabrewulf.

It also featured the ability to use the game with the “Twitch” app. With Twitch, you can let a live audience watch as you battle with a friend.

You can also record your fight as proof of a beatdown with the Game DVR function on the Xbox One.

The bad news: Currently there is no confirmed price or release date for the new “Killer Instinct.” The good news: The game comes with a MadCatz Tournament Edition fightstick.
