Logitech announced last Thursday that it has bought off iPhone’s accessory start-up TT Design Labs. Two years ago the company started with just two persons and was founded using Kickstarter.
TidyTilt the first product made by TT Design Labs, already has a variety of accessories available such as casings for iPhone 5 that comes in leather or plastic, a kickstand used for angling the phone’s screen, ear bud wraps, and magnetic mounts that attaches the device to the fridge and other metal surfaces. Combining other products like the magnetic wall-mount organizer called JustMount, TidyTilt is now available to pre-order on the Logitech website, and you can expect shipment in just weeks.
Derek Tarnow and Zahra Tashakorina founded the company in 2011 while they were still in The Institute of Design in Chicago. TT Design Labs ended up hitting 2,000 percent of its subsidy goals on Kickstarter just for the preliminary release of the TidyTilt. Tarnow now works full time for Logitech after the acquisition, meanwhile, Tashakorina will work as a consultant.
Senior Vice President for Logitech Eric Kintz mentioned in statement that the popularity of mass source funding is bringing in incredible innovation in consumer electronics and the TT Design Labs is one of the perfect examples that show that trend. He also reveals his excitement in tapping into this pool of innovators and talented people, such as Derek and Zahra to create marvellous experiences in the smart phone industry.
Tarnov said that he and partner Tashakorina were caught unaware by Logitech’s curiosity in starting enterprises such as TT Design Labs. He tells his experience when Logitech approached them, at first they were very skeptical since acquisition was not even part of their business plans. After meeting with the Logitech team, it was clear that they were sharing the same vision and had the same passion for creating excellent products.
The announcement was made on Logitech’s official blog.
