East Carolina hosts Connecticut Thursday night looking for their fifth straight win. The Pirates' latest victory came in a 28-17 win on Oct. 11 at South Florida, where senior quarterback Shane Carden helped lead the team to a comeback with three long touchdown drives and finished with 250 yards and a score.

"They were giving us the run game, and I think we have a pretty good run offense that gets overlooked by the passing game," Carden said, via ESPN. "We pass the ball a lot. But when we need to run the ball, we can run the ball pretty well."

Senior running back Breon Allen accounted for 124 of East Carolina's 231 yards, according to ESPN. Allen was also one of three running backs who scored on the ground en route to the Pirates' come-from-behind win.

"In this (league), we know we're going to have to overcome some adversity," said coach Ruffin McNeill. "We know we're going to have to persevere in some things, mistakes that we may make. To do that, it takes a strong character within your team."

Despite East Carolina's successful ground game against South Florida, Connecticut will be game planning to stop Carden. The signal caller already has 2,129 yards and 16 touchdowns through the air, and he's shown he can take care of the ball by having only four interceptions to his name this season.

"He is outstanding. He is one of the best, most productive players in the country," said Connecticut coach Bob Diaco. "One of the most productive players in their history and he has some very talented players to get the ball to."

Connecticut, meanwhile, will look for a strong game from senior quarterback Chandler Whitmer, who has only 856 yards and five touchdowns through six games.
