A 911 operator with the Dallas Police Department was fired for allegedly posting several racist comments to her Facebook page, the Daily Mail reports. April Sims sent out a slew of offensive posts comparing black people to animals and blaming them for wasting time calling 911.
The posts, which have either been deleted or cannot be viewed by the public, were sent to a local Texas news station by one of Sims Facebook friends who took a screen shot of her rants.
One Facebook post read: "Black people are outrageous! They are more like animals, they never know how to act, just loud [expletive]. Always causing problems. I can count on one hand the black people I know who don't have shits for brains. I can count on one hand the black people I know who aren't selfish."
A second post from her account was referring to someone calling in to the operator.
"You want to call 911 cause your boyfriend put his hands on you and you want to press charges when you don't even know his real name?! she wrote. "Sure lets make a police report for Dino, that is his street name."
Immediately the Dallas Police Department responded the incident by firing Sims. They sent out a tweet confirming the operator no longer worked for the department and also posted a longer comment on their Facebook page. According to their message, Sims was hired by the department in November of 2012 and was currently on probation but would specify why.
According to the Daily Mail, the police department has strict rules that prohibit employees from posting anything that would ultimately affect "the morals, confidence and public respect of the police department."
Dwaine Caraway, Dallas City Councilman, told local TV station WFAA that the incident "embarrasses not just the department, it embarrasses the city."
"Number one, I am shocked and it saddens me to know that this is going on and still taking place in today's time, especially here in 911," he said to the station.
The website reports that Sims supposedly contacted a local reporter to say that she didn't delete the Facebook postings and stands by every word.
According to Mstarz, Sims also attacked the Dallas Police Department in another post for not hiring enough Spanish speaking call takers.
"You should be more worried about the fact that there is often no Spanish speaker on duty," she posted. "We have to call a 3rd party language line therefore causing those citizens to wait over a minute for emergency assistance."
Even though Sims has been fired her Facebook page still lists her as a "911 Call Taker at Dallas Police Department."
