Robert Downey Jr. confirmed he will suit up for another "Iron Man" installment. Until then, Tony Stark may revisit an old friend that he still believes to be dead.

Downey told fans during a Reddit AMA that he would be willing to guest star or make a cameo on Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

"Nothing is impossible. But there might be a fair amount of red tape involved in something like that," he wrote. "I love Clark Gregg, and am pleased the show is doing so well."

The movie star last appeared on television in "Ally McBeal," and won a Golden Globe for his supporting role. The show fired him after one season in 2001 due to his numerous drug arrests and trips to rehab. He did provide his voice for a character on "Family Guy" in 2005.

"S.H.I.E.L.D." cast mates also expressed their excitement at the prospect of RDJ stopping by the small screen. Chloe Bennett posted a screenshot of Downey's AMA response and captioned it, "Please please please tell me this is real life."

Another fan made Gregg aware of Downey's warm comment, and he tweeted his appreciation back to his fellow Avenger. "I love him more," Gregg wrote. His co-star Ming-Na Wen tweeted about the actors' exchange, "Luv #Marvel Bromance."

Gregg's character Phil Coulson died at the end of "The Avengers," but his death acted as a catalyst for Iron Man and his fellow Avengers to come together to defeat Loki. They all still believe Coulson is dead. Nick Fury actually brought Coulson back to life and has since installed him as the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders have both reprised their "Avengers" roles on "S.H.I.E.L.D." The show also welcomed "Thor" star Jaimie Alexander as Sif.

Downey and Marvel are in negotiations for an "Iron Man 4." He signed a new contract last year to star in the sequels "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "The Avengers 3."

He's currently making the press rounds for his new movie "The Judge," co-starring Robert Duvall and Vera Farmiga.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" will premiere on May 1, 2015.
