The San Francisco Giants play the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday in Game 1 of the 2014 NL Wild Card. The game starts at 8:00 p.m. ET. Watch the live stream or listen to the radio broadcast via the links provided below.
Game 1 features Pirates pitcher Edinson Volquez (13-7, 3.04 ERA) dueling against Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner (18-10, 2.98). Volquez has improved this season under pitching coach Ray Searage, who said he worked on tweaking the 31-year-old's delivery and on helping him stay consistent with his mechanics.
"Early on he couldn't control it. He had elbows and knees flying all over the place," Searage told the Associated Press. "Now he's able to control it better. That's the biggest thing between a major leaguer and a minor leaguer - they basically have the same stuff, but it all comes up to (their mental approach). ... He's become a complete pitcher. His evolution of becoming a major league pitcher has been nothing but forward."
Bumgarner also enjoyed a solid season, and he's one of many in the San Francisco locker room who have experience playing in big games. The postseason experience has Giants manager Bruce Bochy not worried about starting the 2014 playoffs on the road.
"I don't know what's going to happen, but you're going to see guys who are comfortable playing in this type of game," he said. "They're all about winning. I don't think they'll be affected by any kind of element or environment."
