Acer Launches World’s First 8-Inch Windows 8 Tablet; Goes On Sale June 4

Acer unveiled its first 8-inch tablet running on Windows 8, the Iconia W3, which boasts a high-definition display and a detachable keyboard for a touch and type experience.

The much-speculated Acer Iconia W3, the smallest tablet with Windows 8, was debuted at Computex, Asia's largest computing trade show held in Taiwan, Monday, June 3, by the Taiwan-based computer making company

The Iconia W3 is packed with Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013." Acer aims at bringing the 'desktop into one hand' with its latest 8-inch tablet being the only tablet in the world with Windows 8," said Jim Wong, Acer's President, during the official launch.

Acer created the Iconia W3 in collaboration with Intel technology and Microsoft operating system. As for the specs, W3 is powered by Intel Atom Z2760 processor with 2GB of Ram and integrated Intel Media Accelerator 3650 graphics, according to The Inquirer.

Iconia W3 comes with a full-sized detachable Bluetooth keyboard similar to the one found on Acer's Ultrabook devices, which gives an ease of typing like on computer. The multi-touch high definition display supports 1280x768 resolution with other standard connectivity features such as integrated 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 along with microHDMI and microUSB 2.0 ports.

Acer also announced the Liquid S1, its first 5.7-inch "phablet" pitched against the popular large-screen smartphone making companies like Samsung. Acer holds the fourth position among the largest personal computer manufactures in the world.

Acer Iconia W3, which will be available in 32 GB and 64 GB variants, will be priced starting from $380 and the optional keyboard will cost around $91. The Iconia W3 will hit the stores on Tuesday, June 4.
