A source says that Intel has created a processor that will power a new Samsung Tablet, according to Reuters. The Clover Trail+ from Intel will be the driving force behind one of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.10.1. This move is designed to help both Intel—who does not have a strong presence in the mobile industry—and Samsung—who is battling with Apple in both the tablet and smartphone markets.
Some Samsung tablets have used chips from ARM Holding’s based in the United Kingdom. Intel usually powers Samsung’s group of “ATIV” tablets which use Windows by Microsoft.
The new “ATIV” tablets, equipped with the Clover Trail+ chips, will be revealed at an event in London on June 20 according to sources. As of right now it is not clear whether or not the newest Galaxy Tab will be launched at that event.
The mobile world has been hard on Intel, especially since it has been on top of the PC industry for a while. According to the company’s CEO Brian Krzancic, Intel is making a strong effort to make its mark on the mobile industry.
In 2012 Intel put one of its chips in a Motorola Razr that was only available in some parts of Europe and South America. A big issue for Intel is its inability to provide a processor that can function with the speed that comes with Long Term Evolution, or LTE—technology that is used by many devices in the mobile market.
Samsung, on the other hand, has excelled in the mobile industry. The South Korean-based company has seen its new Samsung Galaxy S4 sell more than 10 million units.
According to the International Data Center, Samsung holds 18 percent of the tablet market.
