Bodies of Jake Ziegler and Ray Pierce, two teens missing from North Carolina from Oct. 13, were found in a car submerged in a South Carolina river on Saturday night.
"The car was found submerged in the Wateree River on I 20 East near the 96 mile marker in South Carolina. The autopsy report on Jake & Ray was released today and the cause of death was drowning," a Facebook page dedicated to finding the missing teens said in a statement.
The boys were found by volunteer searchers from the Community United Effort (CUE) Center for Missing Persons out of Wilmington, North Carolina. CUE volunteers alerted authorities to a vehicle upside down in the river around 4:20 Sunday afternoon.
The authorities said they believe the car went off the left side of the road narrowly missing a guardrail, down a steep embankment and came to a stop in the river.
"There are tire tracks leading from I-20 down the embankment & it appears to be a harsh wreck," the post said.
Ziegler, 18, and Pierce, 17 were missing from Oct 13 after they left a party and told friends they were driving to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to see the sun rise.
Ziegler sent a Tweet from his account saying he wanted to get "intentionally lost." "Wish ray and I luck, were going to drive around until we don't know how to get home. #ExtreemBoredom #AttemptingToIntentionallyGetLost," he tweeted.
