It's happening! Peter Griffin and Homer Simpson will be best buds on the Sept. 28 premiere of "Family Guy." It was previously announced that "Simpsons" creator Matt Groening and "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane were teaming up for a Simpsons/Family Guy crossover episode.

Entertainment Weekly recently caught up with Groening and MacFarlane who dished on the upcoming episode, titled "The Simpsons Guy." In the episode, the Griffin family wind up in Springfield by accident and are greeted by Homer Simpson, who refers to them as "albino."

The two families immediately hit it off: Homer and Peter grab a beer; Bart and Stewie bond while prank calling people; Marge and Lois seem to get along well; and even Meg and Lisa become fast-friends.

"It's really about the character interaction," MacFarlane said about combining the two shows. "People want to see Peter interact with Homer. They want to see Bart interact with Stewie. In a way, the story in a crossover episode, while it has to be there, is never quite as important as how the characters interact with each other."

Even though both shows have taken jabs at each other in the past, Groening told EW that he's a fan of "Family Guy" and even recalled the first time he watched an episode.

"My first take was: Oh my god, we got competition," Groening said. "And they're outflanking us. This show is wilder and harsher and nastier. We used to get in trouble. We used to be the cause of the downfall of the United States."

It's not clear if the Simpsons and the Griffins remain friends by the end of the episode because Peter and Homer get into an argument at the bar. According to Entertainment Weekly, Peter shares his favorite beer - Pawtucket Patriot Ale - with Homer, who says it tastes like his favorite beer, Duff. Homer says Pawtucket is a cheap rip-off.

"This beer tastes exactly like Duff," Homer exclaims. "It's just a lousy rip-off."

Peter gets offended and tells Homer it's "not a rip-off of Duff" but admits it "may have been inspired by Duff."

"I like to think it goes in a different direction," Peter said, but Homer isn't buying it.

The bartender then jumps in and snatches off the label on the Pawtucket beer bottle to reveal the words "Duff beer." Check out a clip of the episode below.
