"The Simpsons" executive producer Al Jean told TV Line that the upcoming death of a major character could rival the "Game of Thrones" Purple Wedding. Jean shocked fans when he revealed last year that a "major" character would be axed from the series. He even told TV Line that they are nicknaming the episode the "Yellow Wedding."

According to the site, the impending death will happen in the Season 26 premiere, which premieres in the fall.

"The character that dies is portrayed by an actor who won an Emmy for playing that character. People who reported on it then reported we were killing an 'iconic' character; I'd like to say it's a great character, but I never used the word 'iconic.' It's a terrific character and it [happens in] our premiere this coming year."

Jean also said that just because a character is getting axed doesn't mean fans won't see him (or her) again, explaining that the victim could pop up in something like a Halloween special or in a dream.

"What we told the performer is, 'This does not mean the end of your participation in 'The Simpsons,'" EP Matt Selman added.

He also said there are people on the Internet who have "figured out" which character is going to die. There have been rumors that Apu Nahasapeemapetilon (voiced by Hank Azaria) was going to leave Springfield for good. Apu is a Kwik-E-Mart employee who is best known for his catch phrase "Thank you, come again." He's also a good friend to Homer Simpson.

The main actors on "The Simpsons" are Dan Castellaneta, who voices Homer; Julie Kavner as Marge; Nancy Cartwright as Bart; and Yeardley Smith as Lisa. The last character killed off was Maude Flanders, 14 years ago.
