After almost a week of detention on charges of drugs trafficking, Arizona mother Yanira Maldonado, has finally been released from a Mexican jail.
According to the ABC News, Yanira Maldonado, 42, was released from the jail, Thursday night (local time) and will be returning home to the U.S.
Maldonado was detained by the Mexican authorities at a check point in Hermosillo, Mexico, while she and her husband were returning from a funeral in Mexico.
She was charged of drug trafficking after the Mexican authorities at the check point discovered 12 pounds of marijuana under her bus seat.
"This is a nightmare. I need to be out," Maldonado said to ABC News after being released from jail.
"I thought that maybe something set up or a joke or something but later I realized that I was detained," said the emotional mother.
Referring to the surveillance footage of Maldonado and her husband boarding the bus in Mexico on May 22, the family's lawyer told reporters that the video footage showed no sign of her drug trafficking activity.
"The evidence was very clear that she never [had] contact with the drug," said the lawyer after Maldonado was released from jail.
