After teasing the circular design of the LG G Watch R, the Korea-based giant released technical details of its new smartwatch.

LG is all set to welcome a new member to its small wearable family. The G Watch R is LG's first circular smartwatch, set to debut at the IFA 2014 in Berlin next week. The tech giant is offering a closer look at its upcoming smartwatch, detailing its features and specifications in an official press release, Thursday. The company already revealed the smartwatch's circular design in a short promo video earlier this week.

LG's new G Watch R builds on the wildly popular circular design first adopted by Motorola Moto 360. It features a 1.3-inch circular display with 320 x 320 pixel resolution. LG claims to be the world's first company to build its smartwatch's full circle OLED display using plastic material, which promises endurance and durability. The G Watch R uses stainless steel frame to protect the smartwatch from daily wear and tear and a 22mm calf skin leather interchangeable strap to complement its aesthetic design.

"What we've noticed in the year of the wearable is that this is a category that can't be compared to smartphones and tablets," Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG, said in a press statement. "Wearables are also accessories and consumers will want more than one to choose from. So we wanted to complement the modern design of the original G Watch with the classic look of the G Watch R. Customers can't go wrong with either device."

The smartwatch is powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, a standard 512MB RAM, 4GB storage and a slightly bigger 410mAh battery. Its IP67 certification for dust and water resistance can survive 30 minutes in one meter of water. Like most smartwatches in the market, the G Watch R is powered by Google's Android Wear platform, opening access to a wide range of Google apps from Play Store.

LG feauters integrated sensors like gyro, accelerometer, compass, barometer and PPG for heart rate monitoring.

LG did not immediately reveal the pricing and availability details, but the G Watch R is expected to hit key markets later this year. But at the IFA 2014, LG will face other highly-publicized gadgets from Motorola, ASUS and Samsung.
