Movies, television shows and comic books have given Superman fans the backstory for its titular character. The story of his girlfriend and Daily Planet colleague Lois Lane usually picks up when she meets the grown Clark Kent.

A new young adult novel titled Lois Lane: Fallout will further establish the character's life before she met Superman, according to the blog, DC Women Kicking A**. DC Entertainment and Switch Press will release the 304-page novel written by YA author Gwenda Bond on May 1, 2015.

Lane arrives in Metropolis as a teenage "army brat." Her family is putting down roots in the big city for the first time in her life. She wants to make a fresh start and fit in at her new high school, but it won't be quite that easy.

"A group known as the Warheads is making life miserable for another girl at school. They're messing with her mind, somehow, via the high-tech immersive videogame they all play. Not cool," the book's description reads.

Clark Kent won't be entirely absent from the story. Lane will have an online friend that she only knows through his screen name, "SmallvilleGuy." Her reporter career also will begin in the story.

Bond teased the novel on her blog on Aug. 25, but Amazon already had the book available for pre-order.

"I can tell you this is an iconic character - definitely someone you know," the novelist wrote. She posted a cover photo that shows Lane in profile and the tagline, "This time, it'll be different."

The YA author's previous titles include The Woken Gods, Blackwood and the upcoming Girl On A Wire.

Lois Lane had her last solo mission in the comic series Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane. The comics ran weekly form 1958 to 1974.
