As protests and chaos rages on in the Missouri suburb of Ferguson over the Michael Brown shooting, dozens of Missourians have rallied in support of the cop who shot and killed the unarmed black teenager.
At least 100 people gathered outside KSDK-TV station in downtown St. Louis on Sunday to show their support for 28-year-old Darren Wilson, the six-year veteran Ferguson officer who killed 18-year-old Michael Brown during a confusing scuffle on Aug. 9.
Supporters held signs that read "Support our police! Pray for peace!" while others wrote encouraging messages on a large canvas with the words "I Stand By You" written in the center, the station reported.
A Facebook page titled "Support Darren Wilson," which organized the rally, received over 24,000 likes since it was created on Saturday. The campaign also started a GoFundeMe donation page and began selling Support Officer Darren Wilson T-shirts for $18 a pop.
"We stand behind Officer Darren Wilson and his family during this trying time in their lives," reads a description for the donation page. "All proceeds will be sent directly to Darren Wilson and his family for any financial needs they may have including legal fees."
The rally comes after the station aired a picture of Wilson's home on Friday. Demonstrators criticized the station for putting the officer's family in danger.
As Wilson supporters gathered in front of the station, a smaller group was seen across the street holding signs in protest of the rally.
"Ferguson Police Are Harboring Fugitives," reads one sign in a picture taken by the station.
The smaller rally reflects the sentiment a larger portion of Ferguson, a predominantly black suburb that has seen days of protests- both violence and peaceful- after the black teen was killed by Wilson, who is reportedly white.
