Flappy Bird Returns, Available on Amazon Fire TV Only

Almost six months after shutting down Flappy Bird from Google Play Store and Apple App Store, Flappy Bird returned on Friday.

Things are different though as the addictive game is now called "Flappy Birds Family" and is only available in Amazon Fire TV.

"Enjoy playing the game at home (not breaking your TV) with your family and friends," the description said.

Its Vietnam-based developer Dong Nguyen decided to shut down Flappy Bird in February because users became addicted to it. The game has been downloaded more than 50 million times since its release in May 2013, and has garnered more than 47,000 reviews.

"I am sorry 'Flappy Bird' users, 22 hours from now, I will take 'Flappy Bird' down. I cannot take this anymore," said @dongatory in a tweet before the game went dark.

At that time, he said he was certain Flappy Bird would never be rereleased.

"Flappy Bird was designed to play in a few minutes when you are relaxed," Nguyen said. "But it happened to become an addictive product. I think it has become a problem. To solve that problem, it's best to take down Flappy Bird. It's gone forever."

Nguyen said in a May interview with CNBC that he would reissue the game in August, with a few alterations to make it less addictive. Looks like he's stuck to his word.

Flappy Bird Family features different-colored bird characters and ghost enemies that players aim to avoid. The game has a two-player option that allows gamers to compete with each other. Scores can also be shared with friends.

Google and Apple have not confirmed whether they will also support downloads of the new Flappy Bird.
