A JetBlue pilot is among six others who were arrested for possessing and selling heroin, Boston police said.
John Manwaring, of Maitland, Florida, was charged with heroin possession after he allegedly arrived in Boston on Sunday, according to the Associated Press. The 42-year-old identified himself as a pilot and said he was only there for sex, according to police.
A woman Manwaring was with was also charged with heroin possession. Two other men were charged with selling heroin and another was charged with trespassing. A fifth male was charged with cocaine possession and trespassing, the AP reported.
The suspects were arrested in an area near Boston Common park where police received reports of "blatant drug use," The Boston Globe reported. Officers saw Manwaring and the others at the park Sunday evening and approached them.
Manwaring denied he had any drugs but when officers searched the pilot they found what they believe to be a bag of heroin. The pilot said the woman he was with, Jennifer Robinson, obtained the drugs.
"I didn't get the drugs; she did," Manwaring told police according to the Globe. He then told police the drugs came from a "Spanish kid" and that he does not do drugs because he is a pilot.
"Manwaring stated that he doesn't use heroin or any drug and stated he was just seeking to have sex," police said.
The pilot was released on his on recognizance after appearing in court on Monday. He declined to speak to reporters.
JetBlue said it removed the pilot from duty and that it is cooperating with police as they conduct their investigation.
"In compliance with all FAA and DOT regulations and requirements, JetBlue has in place a rigorous drug testing program for crewmembers that includes a strict 'no tolerance' program," the airline told the AP.
The company would not say when was the last time Manwaring flew a plane, the Globe reported.
