Kate Mara is taking on the role of Sue Storm in the "Fantastic Four" reboot, but the "House of Cards" actress has never picked up a comic book.

Mara told Esquire Mexico (via Comic Book Movie) she wasn't a fan of comics, but does enjoy comic book movies.  Before she was about the audition for "Fantastic Four," Mara thought it would be best if she read the graphic novels for a reference.

However, the actress was advised not to read the novels prior to audition as the reboot won't be following the history of the comics.

"I've never been a fan of comics, I've never actually read one," Mara said.  "I was going to for this movie but the director said it wasn't necessary. Well, actually he told us that we shouldn't do it because the plot won't be based on any history of anything already published. So I chose to follow his instructions. The one fact is I am a fan of comic book movies, so it's very exciting to be part of a movie like this."

Mara wasn't nervous going into the audition for Sue Storm.  The actress told Esquire she wanted to do well and not let her nerves get the best of her before the audition.

"I was excited, but I only focused on doing the best I could," Mara said.  "I think there are roles you get if that's what needs to happen. I kept everything in perspective although expected to stay with the paper, because the movie has great actors like Michael B. Jordan (who will be the Human Torch)."

As for taking on the role of Sue, Mara doesn't feel any pressure to live up to The Invisible woman and only wants to make her character "as real as possible."

The "Fantastic Four" reboot starring Mara, Jordan, Jamie Bell and Miles Tellers is slated to hit theaters on June 19, 2015.
