Chitika Insights says OS X 10.10 Yosemite beta has become more popular among developers and has outpaced last year's Mavericks in terms of adoption.

Apple announced the upcoming eleventh major release of OS X during the WWDC 2014 earlier last month. While it has just been little over a month since developers got their hands on the new OS, Apple's OS X 10.10 Yosemite has witnessed a significantly higher adoption rate than its predecessor.

Chitika Insights' data shows Yosemite beta adoption rate during the first 30 days of availability between June 2 and July 2, 2014. In just three days of availability, Yosemite Developer Preview accounted for 0.15 percent of the total US and Canadian Mac OS X web traffic. In comparison, Mavericks only achieved 0.05 percent share after 30 days of availability.

Yosemite's strong adoption rate is attributed to the impressive features Apple has packed in its new OS X version. The OS X 10.10 Yosemite has a deeper collaboration with iOS, a feature that has long been in demand for seamless integration between desktop and mobile. Another reason is Apple's release of second Developer Preview on day 15, which ironed out some kinks from the operating system.

Apple's newest OS X version is expected to be available this fall. The early access to the developers gives the company a review of the OS. Registered developers, who pay a $99 annual subscription fee, get access to the preview version, which lets Apple fix some bugs before a general release. The Cupertino tech giant recently pushed out a third Developer Preview on Monday.

Chitika expects the adoption rate to be even higher this week following the third beta release, which was not included in the study due to the 30-day window.

"[W]ith the increased level of developer activity thus far, along with the success of the similarly no cost OS X Mavericks, it's very probable that OS X Yosemite adoption will outpace that of any other previous Mac desktop OS when it is released publicly later this year," the study concludes.
