Ubisoft Chairmen and CEO Yves Guillemot explained why developers wanted to introduce different kinds of online gameplay and co-op options in "Assassin's Creed: Unity."

In the company's official blog, Guillemot spoke about Ubisoft's E3 2014 lineup and the common point the titles shared: open-world gameplay with "seamless online experiences." Ubisoft wants to give gamers the freedoms to explore with friends or attempt missions by themselves.

"You want liberty," Guillemot told Ubisoft's blog. "When you want to play solo, you play solo. If you want to play with your friends, then you let them come join you. The seamless solo/multiplayer is something that we've developed and that will continue to grow in the next few years.

Guillemot explained with every new console released for the market comes the opportunity to capitalize of the hardware. Ubisoft wanted to take advantage of next-gen technology to get creative with how they look at gameplay.

"What I saw from the beginnings of this industry was, during those console shifts, there are lots of opportunities," Guillemot said. "Each time a new console is coming, there are lots of opportunities to create new brands or new types of gameplay - to change the worlds players are spending their time in."

Unfortunately, a focus on next-gen means titles like "Assassin's Creed Unity" and "Rainbow Six Siege" won't be available for the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

However, "Assassin's Creed' Fans can look forward to an "innovative" gameplay experience in the upcoming title, according to Ubisoft's blog. During E3 2014, the developers showcased the new co-op gameplay, but there is more where that came from, according to Guillemot.

"It's a game that takes full advantage of the new gen," he told Ubisoft's blog. "It's really a good demonstration of what those machines can do. And people are amazed. They didn't expect those machines to deliver that level of graphics and animation quality, the depth of the number of people that can move in the environment, and so on. It's helping the brand to have a new beginning with totally different possibilities."
