Dad Who Drowned Sons: Texas Man Receives Death Penalty; Jury Took 10 Minutes to Convict

A Texas father who drowned his 3-year-old and 5-year-old sons have been sentenced to death according to NBC News.

Naim Rasool Muhammad was found guilty of killing 3-year-old Elijah and 5-year-old Naim in 2011 because he was afraid his children would be taken away from him. Prosecutors say the mother's new relationship sent Muhammad into a jealous rage.

"I apologize for bringing any pain and hurt on anybody for the actions that I have caused to you all," Muhammad said.

A recording of Muhammad's confession played a key role in his conviction. Muhammad admitted to making the boys contribute to their own death by telling them to pretend they were swimming and then he held them down until they drowned.

He used a brick to lure the boys and his mother into his vehicle. The boys frightened mother jumped out the car in the middle of an intersection to alert authorities. Muhammad's mother was the one who made the 911 call to report the murders.

"I don't have to recall the facts of the case because, although it was not filled with blood and gore, it was horror unimagined. It was the ultimate textbook family violence power and control play. 'If I can't get you to do what I want you to do through violence, I will go to your very heartstrings'"prosecutor in the case, Sherre Sweet said..

As prosecutors painted Muhammad out to be a threat to society, defense attorney Paul Johnson claims he was a product of a neglectful drug addicted parent, sexual abuse, and violence.

"If it's not this case, what is it? He is not evil, but he has committed an evil act," said Johnson.

Jurors took ten minuets to convict Muhammad.
