Couples Who Sleep Naked Enjoy Happier Relationships, Study Finds

Sleeping naked with your partner may be the key to making your relationship happier and longer lasting, according to a survey from Cotton USA.

A total of 1,000 respondents were asked what type of clothing they wore to bed and if they were happy in their relationship. Of those who said they slept nude, 57 percent said they were happy with their significant other, according to the New York Daily News.

Conversely, 48 percent of those who wore pajamas said they were happy, while 43 percent who wore nightgowns were happy. The most unhappy respondents were those who wore onesies, with just 15 percent saying they were happy with their relationship.

The survey was also broken down by age, with respondents ages 55 and over being most likely to sleep in their birthday suits.

The results suggest couples who sleep naked have more trust and intimacy in their relationship because of increased contact with their partner's skin, said Cotton USA spokesperson Stephanie Thiers-Ratcliff, according to the Daily News.

Simply put, say relationship experts, sleeping naked leads to sex - which, in turn, helps solidify relationships.

"Being naked in bed with your partner is physically and emotionally intimate," Amber Madison, a New York City therapist and relationship expert, told the newspaper. "It's a way of showing, 'I want to be close to you' and a green light for sex. That intimacy and emotional and physical availability is what keeps a relationship strong in light of daily stressors and challenges."

Those surveyed were also asked what bedroom habits annoyed them most. Major turn-offs included unmade beds, clothes left on the floor and other clutter around the bed, the Daily News reported.

Hogging the covers, letting pets into the bedroom and wearing socks to bed were other annoyances, most of which are ignored when it comes to maintaining a relationship, Thiers-Ratcliff said, noting that "there are many factors which can affect the success of a relationship. But one factor which is often overlooked is the bedroom environment."
