A South Carolina woman is behind bars after a dramatic arrest that ended with her falling through a hospital's ceiling as she tried to escape on Sunday.
The shebang began when Christie Davis, who was alone at her friend's Spartanburg house, began smashing and breaking things because she was upset her friend went out, according to WYFF 4.
Unable to calm Davis down when he returned, the friend threw Davis out of the house. But seconds later Davis got into a car, crashed it into her friend's house, exited the vehicle and fled the scene. When police arrived the homeowner said he did not want to press charges due to Davis' medical condition, the station reported.
As police continued their investigation, they found out the car Davis crashed into the man's home was stolen. Davis was later taken into custody for questioning, according to the New York Daily News.
While with the police, Davis said she felt sick and asked to be driven to a hospital. A doctor at Spartanburg Regional Hospital examined Davis and determined she did not have any life-threatening illnesses, the Daily News reported. She was then escorted by a nurse to the bathroom.
Davis remained in the bathroom for several minutes, prompting officers to knock on the locked door to see if she was alright. After repeated knocks hospital staff opened the door to find an empty bathroom with several tiles removed from the ceiling.
It wasn't long before officers said they heard Davis crawling around above the ceiling, ignoring police when they told her to come back. A tile then fell on top of an officer's head followed by Davis who came crashing through the ceiling.
The fugitive was taken into custody and charged with assault and malicious injury to property, according to WYFF 4. She also faces charges of possession of stolen property for the car.
Davis remains at a detention center at the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office on $7,500 bond.
