Gmail Service Mailbox Makes New App for iPad

Mailbox, the email app used by iOS 6 devices and available if you have a Gmail account, has finally been modified to run comfortably on the iPad, according to CNET.

The iPad version of the app has the same features as the previous app. It touts the ability to swipe away emails with the goal of getting your inbox to zero.

The issue with the old app was that, while it was able to run on any iOS 6 device, it was more geared towards the small iOS devices.

The new app accounts for the iPad’s size while still offering the ability to easily manage your emails. The ability to delete, archive, place emails in certain lists and save messages for later review, are still part of the app. However, now, the email composition box is much bigger and the menu drawer sits next to the inbox, instead of requiring the user to go back and forth between the two.

"What we've really tried to do is create a consistent experience that walks the middle ground -- that is used for lightweight triage and working as a makeshift desktop machine," said Mailbox CEO Gentry Underwood.

According to Underwood people use their email as a type of checklist. Emails are used as reminders and are usually sorted into different folders to try to make life easier. Therefore, getting your inbox to zero—something the company says 40 percent of the apps users do once a week—is imperative. Its swipe motion feature aids in reaching that goal.

According to Mailbox, which was acquired by cloud storage service Dropbox during the first quarter, the app has 1 million users who send more than 100 million messages per day. Underwood says the company continues to look to better then app. They are currently working on apps for Android and desktop and will continue to monitor the new iPad app to decide the additional features it should take.
