Child Mauled By Pit Bulls Asked To Leave KFC Because Of Her Scars

KFC launched an investigation after an employee at a Mississippi restaurant allegedly told a 3-year-old girl, who was mauled in a pit bull attack, to leave because her scars were making the other customers uncomfortable.

The incident reportedly occurred last Thursday when a Jackson, Mississippi KFC employee told little Victoria Wilcher to leave because her facial wounds frightened the restaurant's patrons, the Associated Press reported.

Someone called out the employee's actions on Facebook. The post includes a picture of a smiling girl with a cartoon-designed eye patch.

"Does this look scary to you? Last week at KFC in Jackson MS this precious face was asked to leave because her face scared the other diners," the post said according to the AP.

KFC Corp. apologized for the incident the next day.

"As soon as we were notified of this report on Friday, we immediately began an investigation, as this kind of hurtful and disrespectful action would not be tolerated by KFC," spokesman Rick Maynard told the AP. "Regardless of the outcome of our investigation, we have apologized to Victoria's family and are committed to assisting them."

KFC is contributing $30,000 to help pay for Victoria's medical bills. The child suffered a broken nose, jaw, cheekbones and eye socket during the dog attack at her grandfather's home. She lost her right eye, and must now wait for the bones in her face to grow before she can have reconstructive surgery, according to the Facebook page titled "Victoria's Victories."

Victoria's grandmother, Kelly Mullins, was with her granddaughter when they were allegedly asked to leave. The child cried during the entire trip home, Mullins told WAPT-TV.

Victoria is now ashamed of her face, a feeling she never had until the incident, Mullins said.

"She won't even look in the mirror anymore," Mullins said.

Dick West, from the Mississippi KFC franchise West Quality Food Service, wrote on Facebook that KFC customers have never been disrespected in the 50 years the restaurant has been in Jackson, according to the AP.

The franchise is treating Victoria and her family to a KFC picnic.
