Pinterest Brings Guided Search to Desktop

Pinterest recently added the Guided Search feature to its web application, making the site more of a search engine for desktop users.

In April, the company introduced Guided Search to its mobile application, allowing users to come up with filtered keywords based on the original search that they initially performed. The feature helps users find more specific content from a broad keyword. For example, if a user types in the word "book", Pinterest would suggest other relevant keywords such as "classic", "fiction", "bestseller," and others. These keywords then appear on the search bar and users can control the results by clicking on suggested keywords.

Pinterest revamped its website to include the Guided Search feature for its desktop users. The change highlighted the addition of a more prominent search bar which is seen on top of the page.

According to a company blog post, the search bar was placed at "front and center for speedier finds." Users might notice that the website looks like a search engine rather than a content-sharing site, as it were prior to the redesign.

Users will also see that the search bar became more prominent as it stretches across the page. The Categories section has been transferred to the page's right side, Techcrunch reported.

Another addition made by Pinterest is Interests, a feature showing different categories from which users could browse images. These new additions were seen as Pinterest's way of showing that it would no longer be a passive content-collector anymore, but rather a site that could serve as a search-engine site like Yahoo or Google. Most of Pinterest contents, however, were related to online shopping and other forms of branded content such as wedding, art, books, fashion, makeup, jewelry, music items, and more.

Some desktop users would not see the Guided Search yet but Pinterest announced that the update would be finished in the next few weeks.
