A woman, disabled teenager and dog were found dead inside their Illinois home and a man has been arrested in what police say is a failed murder-suicide.
The bodies of a 50-year-old woman, a disabled 17-year-old girl and a dog were found Sunday inside a home on Continental Drive in Waukegan after a man allegedly called 911 and confessed to the murders, CBS Chicago reported. The man, said to be the teenager's father, was treated at a hospital for self-inflicted wounds.
Lake County prosecutors charged the man, identified as Anthony Marcus, with two counts of murder late Monday morning. He is being held on $5 million bond, according to ABC Chicago.
Police say Marcus, 53, called 911 from the home at around 6 p.m. on Sunday, saying he killed his family and that he was going to commit suicide.
"Officers immediately responded to the scene," Waukegan Police Commander Joe Florip told CBS Chicago. "Once they arrived...they found what they believed to be a suicide note on the front porch of the address. They went inside the residence, and immediately took a male suspect into custody."
Police arrested Marcus and searched the home, during which they discovered his alleged murder victims. Police did not say how the victims died or what injuries the father sustained. The victims' names have not been released.
Police also did not comment as to the nature of the teenager's disability, but neighbors said she used a wheelchair, ABC Chicago reported.
Police do not believe the murders were a random act.
"Currently, we believe this is a domestically-related issue. We believe it's a husband, wife and daughter," Florip told CBS Chicago.
Neighbors said the family, who lived in the home for eight years, did not appear to have any problems.
"This is just shocking," Kayla Walker, who lives across the street, told ABC Chicago. "They always waved hi and bye."
