A ship that has been abandoned in the waters off New Hampshire for the last three months has the locals puzzled and annoyed.
Dubbed the "ghost ship," the mysterious 75-foot boat has not had a single person claim ownership since it drifted off from its mooring in January and ended up in the waters off Hampton Beach, the New York Daily News reported.
Hampton resident Alicia Preston said they don't know what to do with the floating giant.
"That's the big problem," Preston told the Daily News. "No one is claiming responsibility for it."
The "ghost ship" turned up in the harbor last summer, but it broke free from its mooring and has since been in front of Preston's home, she told the newspaper.
The boat, officially named "Guest List," came close to slamming into Preston's house during this winter's many storms. It's now stuck in the marsh 100 feet from her house. Its origin has become the source of several wild rumors.
"It was supposedly blown up in a Denzel Washington movie, another rumor is it was used as a porno place but the reality is it was a boat bought by a Brazilian," Preston told Fox Boston.
Reports say the Brazilian went back to his country, leaving Hampton residents to deal with the trouble of removing the boat.
But local officials say the boat, which is registered in Newburyport, is not in their jurisdiction, Fox Boston reported.
It is also unclear who will fork over the cash to pay for hauling the ship from its three-month bed. Newburyport is the only port nearby that has the equipment to move the boat and is large enough to store it, the station reported.
Until then, the ghost ship will remain stuck in the marsh, becoming a tourist attraction during the day and a free party spot by night.
Preston joked that she might even open up a lemonade stand, the Daily News reported.
