Samsung Announces New S4 App Contest for $800,000

Samsung has announced a new "Smart App Challenge 2013," which promises prize money of $800,000 to developers who make award-winning apps for the company's new Samsung S4.

Samsung has requested developers to enter its new "Smart App Challenge 2013" contest, which promises to give 10 developers $800,000 for developing award-winning apps for the company's new Samsung S4. The prize money will have to be shared among the top ten developers. However, the company has mentioned some terms and conditions all entrants need to abide by.

The company has stated that all apps need to be built around its Samsung Chord SDK (software development kit) and the app will be sold via Samsung's Apps marketplace. All entrants also need to focus on making their application functional across smartphones wirelessly without the need for a mobile network or server. The South Korean company said Monday that developers should "take advantage of Samsung's Group Play feature for multi-player games or sharing music and photos among users."

All apps must be submitted for review between June 20 and August 31. Judges will announce their decision by November this year. The winner will be awarded $200,000. Three runners up will be awarded $100,000 each and the developers of the next six best applications will be awarded $50,000 each.

Samsung had introduced the same contest last year but the applications were for its Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Tab. The shooting app "Gun & Blood" was declared the winner.
