Man Who Forced Hundreds Of Mexican Women Into Prostitution Gets Life In Prison

New York issued what is believed to be the state's first life-sentence for sex trafficking on Wednesday, the New York Daily News reported.

Isaias (Chelo) Flores-Mendez, 42, was found guilty of running a sex-trafficking ring from 2005 to 2013, where he entrapped hundreds of Mexican women, brought them to New York and forced them into prostitution.

Manhattan Federal Judge Katherine Forrest called Flores-Mendez's actions "repulsive" as she handed down the life sentence, Daily News reported.

"I do know that no sentence can return to the victims that which has been so brutally taken from them, but today is a day that perhaps these victims have been waiting for," the judge said according to the New York Post, "a day when our society would understand, and listen to what was happening to them, and see that this defendant, who committed such awful crimes using them, would be brought to justice and is brought to justice."

The pimp and his traffickers lured young women by the "hundreds, if not thousands" from the Mexican town of Tenancingo to New York City, prosecutors said. The traffickers dated the women and led to them believe they would have a better life in the U.S., the Daily News reported.

The women were then forced to have sex up to 35 times a day in several locations including homes in the city, the Hudson Valley and a farm in New Jersey.

Some of the victims were underage, prosecutors said. One 17-year-old received beatings from Flores-Mendez, who made her and her child sleep under a table on the kitchen floor, the Daily News reported.

"Please make sure that Isaisas can never hurt my family, or anyone else, ever again," the 17-year-old said in a letter to the judge, the newspaper reported.

Flores-Mendez admitted to running the prostitution and trafficking in Tenancingo, which was labeled the "world capital of sex trafficking" by authorities last year. He pled guilty to trafficking and interstate transportation for prostitution among other charges, according to the Post.
